On July 1st, Connecticut became the fifth state to enact a comprehensive privacy law – An Act Concerning Personal Data Privacy and Online Monitoring (‘CTDPA’).
The CTDPA provides consumers with several data subject rights, such as rights of access, correction, deletion, data portability, and the right to opt-out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and profiling for automated decision-making.
The CTDPA also requires data controllers with certain obligations, such as providing consumers with a reasonably accessible and clear privacy notice and undertaking data protection assessments for activities that present a heightened risk of harm to consumers, among others.
In this MEWS+ event, Vin Merola of Murtha Cullina, shares important information the CTDPA and what small business owners – and anyone who has a website that collects personally identifiable information (PII) from their visitors – need to know:
Consumer rights
Business obligations
Best practices to comply
